Patients: Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to receive Propel?

All orthodontic patients could benefit from accelerated treatment including cases where difficulty is experienced moving teeth, rotations or closing spaces. Patients who are on chronic steroids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are not ideal candidates.

How many micro-osteoperforations are needed and why?

Where possible three (3) micro-osteoperforations should be made, however, one (1) or two (2) can be made in tight areas restricted by roots or thin alveolar bone. Through scientific data, it has been determined that three (3) micro-osteoperforations are optimal.

Is anesthesia required? What type?

Yes. It is the clinician’s choice as to what type, but commonly topical or local infiltration is used. There is no need to do a block.

How often should Propel be applied?

Propel should be used anytime during orthodontic treatment to initiate accelerated movement, but only as needed.

How do I know Propel is safe to use?

Propel is an FDA-registered 510(k) cleared device that incorporates surgical-grade stainless steel and is specifically designed to maintain its integrity. It is also optimized to deliver the smallest and cleanest micro-osteoperforations required to maximize patient comfort. It is packaged sterile and intended for one treatment disposable use.

What is Propel’s FDA status?

Propel is a Class II, FDA registered 510(k)-cleared medical device.
